Never a fan of Harry’s to begin with, I started to really seriously dislike him in this scene….the emotion in Lucas’s voice is heart breaking.
Harry asks Lucas to try and remember everything that happened at the time “Sugarhorse” was mentioned, but won’t explain why. (Spooks/MI5 ~ S07E05)
Lucas: Do you know what they were doing to me when it was mentioned?
Harry: Yes, and I still need you to put yourself back there. Who was present, any detail that-
Lucas: I was tortured for seventeen days…continuously.
Lucas: Was Sugarhorse the reason?
Harry: I’m certain it was.
Lucas: And now you want me to just put myself back there without telling me anything about what I was tortured for?
Lucas: Don’t you dare try any of your sanctimonious good-of-the-nation crap on me. There are limits to what you can ask of people, Harry. Even in our business.
but then we have to remember the troubles that Harry has faced throughout his time in spooks, and what we don’t see before the series started. Harry was one of the players in the cold war and who knows what sort of horrors he was forced to face as a case officer. As it was at that stage I thought you could see a younger Harry doing exactly what Lucas was being forced to do, he attempts to be compassionate but never quite makes it.
